Even without an immediate need for either pet insurance or Velocity points, securing 15,000 Velocity points (equivalent to 9677 KrisFlyer miles) for the minimum of approximately $AU50 (~$30) is a very good deal. The Velocity program is open mainly to Australia and NZ residents, though many qualify through relatives or friends. Great opportunity especially if you were already looking for pet insurance. You can even take it out for multiple pets for even more points.

Velocity points have some unique redemption opportunities and sweet spots, don’t expire with activity, and convert to Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer 1.55:1.

To qualify: Obtain any pet insurance policy with an annual premium of $200 or more, and maintain it for 90 days, Cancelling the policy early allows for a pro rata refund, resulting in a total cost of around $30 (AU$50) for the 15,000 points. Opting for monthly or fortnightly payments is a slightly more expensive alternative, totaling around $60-70 for the points.
